Jessica Alba once tried to play a brilliant scientist (“Fantastic Four”) and the results were not exactly, uh, good. Here, her character’s also pretty good at math, but maybe it’s the direction by Marilyn Agrelo or the script, but she looks much more comfortable in the role. In any case, “An Invisible Sign” looks like one of those potential turning points for Alba in terms of movie career. God knows she could use it after burning a ton of bridges recently by badmouthing her past directors. It’s definitely a major step out of her comfort zone, which probably explains why it’s not getting a whole lot of attention and is already on VOD and scheduled to open in select theaters May 6, 2011 from IFC Films.
