Directed by Sival and produced by A. Venkatesh, Srimati Kalyanam (starring Sangitha) is being produced simultaneously in Telugu and Tamil. Producer Venkatesh said, "Earlier, I produced Sampangi in Telugu. This film is also on similar lines and has a very nice subject. We will wrap up the shooting by Vijayadasami. The character played by Sangeetha has two different shades and angles."

Venu Madhav, Krishna Bhagawan, Raghubabu, M.S. Narayana and Sudha are in the cast. S.A. Rajkumar is composing some lilting melodies which sure to capture Telugu audiences' hearts.
Recently, Sangeetha essayed the role of a prostitute with elan in Dhanam and has once again proved her acting prowess. Sangeetha has taken to playing heroine-oriented roles in many of her recent movies. She has been heard claiming that she would rather do one good role worth her calibre rather than be a heroine doing the same thing over and over again!

Some of the religious extremists slammed Dhanam film director G. Shiva for portraying a typical Brahmin family as brutally murdering a new born baby.

According to Hindu Makkal Katchi, the director has intentionally degraded the values of Hinduism and religious faiths in his film.

Shiva, a former associate of K.Balachander made his debut through this film. He story is very controversial. According to the story, a prostitute enters in to a typical Brahmin family as their daughter-in-law and slowly mingles with the members. The family has accepted the prostitute on the advice of their family astrologer ('the entry of a prostitute will bring prosperity to the family!')

The extremists slammed the director by saying that his ideas are premature. It is absolutely against the sentiments of the numerous Hindus across the world. They demanded the immediate deletion of the portions related to the astrologer and climax. They also requested the public not to watch and support these kind of half baked films
